How to Choose Your Matcha — the Lisata guide

How to Choose Your Matcha — the Lisata guide

Ceremonial, premium, barista - matcha grades can feel confusing. here's the simple truth, and how to find the one that's right for you.

Grade is not a ranking

This is the big myth, so let's clear it up first: a higher grade does not mean a better matcha. grade describes a matcha's character and what it's best for - not a ladder from worst to best.

A ceremonial grade is delicate, made for whisking on its own. A barista grade is bold, made to shine through milk. neither is better. They're simply made for different cups.

So how do you choose? start with how you drink it

  • You whisk a pure bowl and sip it slowly → a ceremonial grade like Hikari

  • You want one matcha that does everything → a premium grade like Hakura

  • You make matcha lattes most days → a barista grade like Camellia

  • You bake, blend, and drink daily → an everyday grade like Asahi

  • You want something cosy and low in caffeine → Hojicha, our roasted tea

New to matcha?

Start with a premium grade like Hakura. It's forgiving, versatile, and lovely both whisked and as a latte, the kindest place to begin while you find your feet.

The Lisata belief

We don't sell matcha as a ladder to climb, with the priciest at the top. We offer five grades, and not one of them is the "best" one. Each is genuinely the best at what it does.

There's no best matcha - only your Best. Your job isn't to buy the most expensive bag. It's simply to find the one that fits your taste, your routine, and your life.
