Is There Really a Best Matcha?

We get this question more than any other. and the honest answer might surprise you.

Google "best matcha" and you'll get a thousand opinions. An influencer says ceremonial is the only "real" matcha. A tea blog says theirs is the highest-rated. Every shop claims they have the best. It's confusing — and it makes most people second-guess what to buy.
So let's clear the air. There is no single best matcha. There's only the one that's best for you.
Grade is a description, not a ranking
The biggest myth is that higher grade equals better matcha. it doesn't. Grade describes a matcha's character and what it's made for — not a ladder from worst to best.
A ceremonial-grade matcha is delicate and aromatic, made to be whisked with just water. A barista grade is bold and vivid, made to shine through milk. Neither is better than the other. They're made for different cups, different moments, different people.
What "best for you" actually depends on:
-
How you drink it — pure whisked bowl, or matcha latte?
-
Where you drink it — quiet kitchen, busy desk, or both?
-
Your taste — do you like rich and umami, or mild and smooth?
-
Your routine — once a week, or twice a day?
-
Your budget — what feels comfortable to spend?
The lisata belief
We offer five grades, and not one of them is the "best" one. Each is genuinely the best at what it does — and your job isn't to climb a ladder to the priciest. Your job is simply to find the one that fits.
That's why we built our "meet your match-a" quiz. four short questions about your habits and taste, and we'll point you to your match — at a price that works for you.
